Furry Friday – Super Happy Coco!

coco 2Okay, I don’t normally feature the same species two weeks in a row from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa for Furry Friday.  I like to rotate between cats and dogs and other creatures.  But this week I have made an exception because Coco, the three legged puppy, has captured my heart.

Look at that face!  She is the happiest dog, and completely unaware that she only has three legs.  I had a dog like Coco once, her name was Susie.  She was a black lab who had a real thing for the smell of fresh cut grass.  So one day, while a very young neighbor boy was out cutting hay on a tractor, without his father’s permission, Susie got loose to try to get a snout full of grass.  He ran her over.  His father was going to shoot her, but my dad got in the way and told him that would be a problem.  coco 3

Instead dad rushed her to town and insisted the vet amputate and save her.  And you know what?  Within a week she was back home and you would have thought nothing had ever happened.  In fact, she may have run even faster without her fourth leg.  And she had the sweetest, happiest disposition.  I see all of this in Coco.

In fact, here is information from the ARL:

BIG FAN OF: People, toys, and treats. You know, the best things in life!

SPECIAL FEATURES: Coco might just be the happiest little gal on the planet! She loves being active and approaches all aspects of life with enthusiasm. On top of that, she’s a genius! She already knows sit, down, stay and come, although classes would be great for working on her manners. Remember, she is still just a youngster.

OTHER REASONS SHE’S SPECIAL: Coco came to us with a fractured leg that was healing abnormally and causing her quite a bit of pain. She has just 3 legs now, but don’t tell her that! She does everything she wants to do and more!

DREAM HOME: With a family who will give her walks each day, teach her cool things and cuddle up with her in the evenings. She can play like a puppy with other dogs, so plan on a meet-and-greet with any resident canines before adoption to make sure everyone’s energy levels are compatible.

So, the moral of the story is, I highly recommend you go out and get Coco.  Or, more importantly the pet that is perfect for you.  It is a fur-ever home after all! 🙂
