Furry Friday – Fosters Needed

As you know, this is my weekly advertisement to get you to adopt a new family member from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.  But this week my request is a little different.  Yes, if you can adopt, please do!  But, if you aren’t sure about a long-term commitment or have a couple of pets and don’t think another permanent member of the household would work, this is for you.

I would like to encourage you to foster a pet.  Of special need are foster homes for cats.  What this means is you take in a pet from the ARL that needs a getaway from the shelter, or by opening your home to somebody furtastic, you open up space for the ARL to save another life.

Here’s some information from an e-mail they sent earlier in the week:

The ARL is at a very critical time of the year. We are full of cats with more coming in every day that need us.

We need your help to make room at the shelter by fostering a cat through our Shelter Cat Getaway (SCG) program!  The purpose of the Shelter Cat Getaway program is to give long-term ARLresident cats a chance to get out of the shelter during our busiest time of year and enjoy the in-home life they deserve. It also allows the ARL more space to help cats that are coming to us in need every day –  we receive dozens of new cats each day in the summer!

Do you have a spare room that you could host a cat for even the next 60-90 days (if not adopted earlier)? We can help match you up with just the right cat! All of the cats available to foster are healthy, adoptable cats and will continue to be on the ARL website for adoption, but from the comfort of a real home.

Perhaps you have been watching the website or met a special cat at the ARLthat you’ve had your eye on? Now is the time to give the cat a break from the shelter, or even better, adopt them!

If you are interested in fostering or have any questions please contact Carol Griglione at (515) 979-4207 or cgriglione@arl-iowa.org or Cindy Gerke (515) 608-0393 or cgerke@arl-iowa.org ASAP to help make more room at the shelter! Fill out a foster application, here.”

Fostering is just one of many ways you can help the Animal Rescue League in their mission to save lives.  Thank you!

Please Adopt, Don’t Shop. -Kate
