I rarely, if ever, share an entire press release about an event. (I literally get hundreds a week.) But this one caught my eye. Special Olympics Iowa has been doing this event for a couple of years, and it’s quite a sight to see. What caught my attention this time though, is a team of 20 female law enforcement officers from the area are banding together, and I am all about Girl Power and supporting the police!
So, I am sharing to encourage you to give to the ladies team, if you can (Special Olympics is amazing), and if all else fails, go watch. It really should be quite something to see. Oh, and there will be other teams competing as well. 😀

20 Awesome Girl Cops Will Pull Cargo Plane at Des Moines International Airport
All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Iowa
PLEASANT HILL, Iowa – On Saturday, June 4, 2016, Special Olympics Iowa will host their third annual Plane Pull at Des Moines International Airport presented by the Lohse Foundation. This event brings together teams of up to 20 people attempting to pull a 120,000-pound UPS 757 across the tarmac, with the hopes of achieving top honors in one of the four categories: fastest pull (in each of the seven divisions), grand champion, top fundraising team and best team costume.
Girl Cops Are Awesome is one of the teams that will debut their strength as 20 women Police Officers from 10 different agencies band together to pull a 757 airplane, 12 feet in the fastest time. This family-friendly event is free and we encourage the public to attend and cheer on the women who protect serve our communities. The ‘Girls Cops Are Awesome’ team will pull the airplane at 10:30 a.m.
“Being one of the 20 Police Officers on this team to raise money benefitting Special Olympics Iowa is an honor. On Saturday, I look forward to the adventure of our team working together to exhibit a feat of strength, while benefiting a great cause. The money we raise will impact those Special Olympics athletes and to me that is the most gratifying and rewarding part of pulling this airplane,” said Captain Amy Kramer.
The proceeds from this year’s Plane Pull will directly benefit the 13,000 Iowans with intellectual disabilities, enabling them to participate in all of the sports training and competition, health and fitness, and leadership programs offered by Special Olympics Iowa.
If you wish to attend the event, free parking is available at the Des Moines International airport in LOT 4 and also includes shuttle service to the Endeavor Air section, located at 2901 Army Post Road where the event will take place, beginning at 10 a.m. There will be a kid’s zone, music, food, and entertainment, plus all your favorite Awesome Girl Cops!
