    September 12, 2025 - 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm at St James Celebrations
    9774 G24 HWY

St. James Celebrations presents ‘Steel Magnolias’ The heart-warming and hilarious play hits the stage Sept. 12 & 13 in the memorial chapel. St James Celebrations is located at 9774 G24 HWY, Indianola, IA.   The Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:00 p.m

Set in Truvy’s (played by Kailan Wise) beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (Alison Root), who is not sure whether or not she is still married, the outspoken, wisecracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser (Charissa Hamel), (“I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years”); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee (Denise Forney), who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn (Julie Howland), whose daughter, Shelby (Rachel Thornton), the prettiest girl in town, is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play is at times touching and funny.

Directed by Michael Howland as an anniversary present for his wife, Julie. Celebrating 28 years of marriage and love for local theatre.
